Impressive white out conditions hit the D.C. area briefly Monday morning as a storm system intensified and moved up the coast. Visibilities dropped below 100 yards at times as the sky became remarkably dark, snow became heavy, and winds increased. Accumulations generally ranged from 1 to 4 inches across the area. Snow quickly moved to the east of D.C. and into New England by afternoon, creating blizzard conditions with thundersnow near Boston by evening.
