Heat Wave

Steve Scolnik @ 4:00 PM

It's a typical summer heat wave across the Washington metro area this afternoon. All official reporting locations have temperatures in the 90s. It's the second day in a row with 90+ temperatures. Nearing the midpoint, temperatures for June are averaging 2.8 degrees above normal, compared with the nearly 4 degrees below for May. Dewpoints mostly 69-72 are slightly lower than yesterday, but the higher temperatures are putting heat indices near or over 100 in many places. Regional radar is clear; the nearest showers are in central Ohio.

Outlook

There is still the remote possibility of an isolated shower or 2 developing through this evening, but the chances of rain at any given location are less than 10%. Tonight will continue muggy, with lows in the low to mid 70s. Tomorrow's highs will reach the mid 90s with a 20% chance of showers or thunderstorms.

Legislative Heat

The Senate takes up the energy bill this week, and there have been a number of articles and editorials in the press in the last few days discussing climate change issues and the prospects of several climate change amendments being offered:
