SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH

Josh Larson @ 1:30 PM

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) in Norman, Oklahoma has issued a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH for the entire Washington, DC metro area effective through 10pm tonight. Any thunderstorms that develop during this period are capable of producing:
  • hail to one inch diameter
  • wind gusts to 70mph
  • dangerous lightning
Though the nearest thunderstorm activity is still back over West Virginia as of 2:30pm, I expect that thunderstorms will develop over the DC metro area between 4-6pm.

Stay tuned to Capitalweather.com this afternoon and tonight to stay abreast of the thunderstorm situation.
