Summer officially began at 4:24 a.m. with the solstice, and the sun celebrated with a spectacular first sunrise of the new season.
The sky glowed with shades of orange, yellow and gray as sun rays streamed through a canopy of mid-level clouds.
It was a beautiful start to Father's Day, which — coinciding with the solstice — will also be the longest day of the year.
