Tomorrow (Wednesday): Hump day finds a nastier bump in temperatures. Sunshine helps drive highs into the upper 90s to low 100s with light winds from the west. With moderate to high humidity (afternoon dew points in upper 60s to near 70) the heat index could peak near 105, prompting a heat advisory for the entire region. DC could challenge its record high for the date of 102, while Dulles has an even better chance to tie or exceed its record high of 99. Stay cautious and hydrated when outside. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Clear skies and muggier with lows in the 70s, maybe only dipping to near 80 in the District, with light winds. Confidence: High

A look ahead

Thursday is still quite hot with highs in most spots at least in the upper 90s, and maybe a few hitting 100 again. Humidity in the moderate to high range (dew points in mid-60s to near 70) boosts the heat index to 100 to 105. As the dome of high pressure starts to weaken, a few more clouds are possible, but we'll still probably see mostly sunny skies. Thursday night is partly cloudy with lows in the muggy 70s. Confidence: High

Friday finds some modeling disagreement on how fast high pressure recedes, and thus how quickly the heat retreats. For now, partly to mostly sunny skies are favored with low to mid-90s for highs. Perhaps most importantly, the humidity should be lower with dew points dropping into the 60s. Friday night is partly cloudy with lows in the upper 60s to mid-70s. Confidence: Medium-High

The weekend should trend less hot with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s Saturday and mid-80s to near 90 Sunday. Expect partly to mostly sunny skies with a chance of scattered afternoon into evening storms both days. Saturday night should be partly to mostly cloudy with lows in the upper 60s to low 70s. Confidence: Medium

There is some potential for daily shower and storm chances to continue early next week with highs somewhere in the 80s to near 90.
