Always a human at the helm: Updated around-the-clock by Capital Weather meteorologists.

Happening now: 90s return today with subpar air quality. Bright skies feature some high clouds.

What’s next? Hot through at least tomorrow, probably Sunday. A cold front approaching this weekend may spark a few showers or storms late Saturday into Sunday. Less warm early week, behind the front.

Today’s daily digit — 6/10: Heat is back with many 90s around. Breezes should help keep air quality from becoming worse than Code Orange level. Luckily, low humidity. | 🤚 Your call?

Forecast in detail

Today (Friday): Highs near 90 to perhaps mid-90s in a few hotspots. Skies are mainly bright other than some high clouds. Humidity is thankfully still low (dew points in the 50s). Gusts from the west-southwest as high as 20 mph. Air quality is Code Orange. Confidence: High

Tonight: Partly cloudy, less breeze, and a little muggier (dew points near 60). This added atmospheric moisture keeps lows from getting below the mid-60s to near 70. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Saturday): Similar or perhaps slightly hotter highs in the low to mid-90s as a cold front approaches. Fairly sunny, and also breezy with gusts from the southwest near 25 mph. Just a small chance of a late-day shower or storm. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Still a bit breezy with a somewhat higher shower and thunderstorm chance after dark. Notably humid (dew points in the 60s), with lows in the mid-60s to low 70s. Confidence: Medium

Sunday: Still a slight shower or storm chance—especially early—as the front passes through. Highs still get toasty in the upper 80s to low 90s. Partly to mostly sunny. Confidence: Medium

A look ahead

Sunday night: Rain-free, calming breeze, and mostly clear. Lows in the 60s to near 70. Confidence: Medium

Near 80 to mid-80s Monday and Tuesday give us a heat break behind the cold front. The drier, un-humid air should make the warmth comfortable. Rain chances are very low, but not quite zero. Skies are looking sunny. Confidence: Medium

Heat may spike again mid- to late week, so enjoy some time off from it.
