There were a few spotty showers in the DC area early this morning and an isolated shower is still possible into this evening. But otherwise today is a break from storm chances.
It's a short-lived break.
After the chance of a few showers Thursday morning, showers and storms seem like a good bet Thursday midafternoon into early evening, as an area of low pressure interacts with a warm and very moist air mass (dew points around 70 to 75).
There is potential for some storms to produce damaging winds and isolated flooding. The National Weather Service has placed central to eastern portions of the DC area under a Level 2 out of 5 risk of severe weather due to the threat of storms with damaging wind gusts.

While it's early to be too confident on timing, models generally favor the 3 to 8 p.m. window as the most likely time for storms in the DC region on Thursday. See a few examples below.
Model forecasts of radar for Thursday 3 to 8 p.m.
