I made a trip to DC late Tuesday afternoon to photograph the storms. They developed on all sides of the city, but not a drop of rain fell as I walked a loop from the National Mall to the Jefferson Memorial and back.
One large storm loomed north of the Capitol while another, smaller cell blossomed southwest of the Washington Monument. Both skirted the city but provided spectacular views of their cloud structure. I didn't hear any thunder or see any lightning, and I headed home before the heavy rain bands finally moved into town around sunset.
