Forecast in detail

Today (Wednesday): Some periods of midday sun before clouding up again this afternoon, with highs in the mid- to upper 80s and very humid (dew points in the low 70s). Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely during the afternoon into early evening, especially between 2 and 7 p.m. Some downpours and gusty winds are possible, but these could be hit or miss. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Shower and storm chances look to dwindle by 8 p.m. or so. We're left with a super muggy night and lows in the low 70s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Thursday): Partly to mostly sunny as we turn up the heat with highs in the low to mid-90s. Still very humid as well with the afternoon heat index peaking in the mid-90s to near 100. We have another shot at showers and storms during the afternoon into evening. Perhaps fewer than today, but any that develop have a better chance to turn severe with potential for damaging winds. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Shower and storm potential should again quickly diminish as we get into the evening. It is a sultry evening and overnight with that thick humidity and lows in the low to mid-70s. Confidence: Medium

A look ahead

Even a touch hotter Friday, and continued very humid, with highs in the mid-90s and the heat index reaching near 100. Showers and thunderstorms are once again a concern during the afternoon into evening, and look to be more numerous than Thursday. Those that develop have some potential to be severe. A cold front comes through Friday night, knocking humidity down to a more reasonable level, with lows in the mid-60s to near 70. Confidence: Medium

The weekend brings a nicely timed break in rain chances, although we can't rule out a shower or storm toward evening on Sunday. We should take a bit of the edge off the heat, but it's still plenty warm both days with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. Meanwhile the humidity looks noticeably lower (dew points near 60). Confidence: Medium
