Friday morning offered an early autumn preview.

Most locations away from downtown DC, the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay saw lows settle in the 50s — the coolest since early June and a welcome change from much of July.

At Washington Dulles International Airport, the low dipped to 57 degrees, the coolest since June 5, when it was 55. It was 10 degrees below the normal low of 67.

At the typically warmer Reagan National Airport, the low was 66, compared with a normal of 73.

The Maryland Mesonet recorded lows in the 50s at all of its stations near DC. In northern Washington County, near the Mason-Dixon Line, and in Garrett County in western Maryland, temperatures fell into the mid- to upper 40s. A few locations near the Chesapeake Bay remained in the 60s.

While still refreshingly cool, lows Saturday morning should be about 4 to 7 degrees warmer in most locations.
