The weather pattern is poised to change abruptly between tomorrow and Thursday as very, warm humid air surges northward. On Thursday, temperatures will soar well into the 90s – a far cry from today's high near 80.
Then, as a cold front barges into that steamy air, thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon and evening. Some could be severe.
The National Weather Service has placed the area in a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe storms. The main hazards of concern will be damaging wind gusts and hail, in addition to torrential rain and lightning.
This same storm system could produce strong tornadoes in parts of Illinois and Indiana on Wednesday.
Because this event is still two days away, it's too early to pinpoint the timing of the storms or have a strong sense as to how widespread they'll be. But stay tuned for daily updates.
