Today was a change of pace, with temperatures in the 60s during the afternoon and occasional moderate rain falling. It was the second day of measurable rain in what has been a very dry June, and 2026 so far, plus much longer than that.
DC picked up 1.1 inches over the two days. Monday was the wettest day in four months to the date, and this is now the most in 24 hours since the infamous "Snowcrete" storm nearly five months ago.
Rainfall amounts of 1 to 1.5 inches were common near and south of DC, with some higher and lower totals intermixed. Numbers generally trailed off for locations farther north, to as little as 0.5 inches or less in far northern suburbs.
Other totals include:
- 2.09 inches near Kettering, Maryland
- 1.90 inches in Burke, Virginia
- 1.31 inches at Great Falls, Virginia
- 1.27 inches at BWI Marshall
- 1.12 inches at Dulles Airport
- 0.64 inches in Gaithersburg, Maryland
- 0.47 inches in Mount Airy, Maryland
While it is important rainfall, DC's rainfall remains about half a foot below normal in 2026 and a foot below normal over the past 12 months.
