Forecast in detail

Today (Thursday): Plenty of sun and hot. Highs mainly in the mid-90s, with a range of about 93 to 97. It'll feel more like 100 to 105 at peak heat index, given the high humidity and dew points above 70. A few late-day storms may pop, mainly after 5 p.m., and they could be strong if they do. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: A couple of strong evening storms are possible, then partly cloudy overnight. Muggy and mid-summerlike lows in a near 70 to mid-70s range. Maybe upper 70s in DC. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Friday): Hot, hazy, humid. Partly sunny and probably a touch hotter than today, with temperatures mostly in the mid-90s during the afternoon peak. Heat indexes rise to around 105 because humidity remains high. Showers and storms could be scattered to widespread, and there is potential for severe weather, mainly in the form of wind damage. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Once any evening storms clear out, partial cloudiness lasts into the night. Moisture levels should begin to tail off behind the front late, with lows about 65 to 70. Confidence: Medium-High

A look ahead

Lower humidity for Saturday and lower storm chances, too. We should see a good deal of sun, with highs in the mid- and upper 80s. Confidence: Medium

It should be hotter again Sunday. Given the added heat, it will be a bit muggier. Highs around 90 to 95, with the chance of some late-day storms. Confidence: Medium

Cooler to start the workweek. Highs should be around 80 for a few days before creeping back upward. Confidence: Medium
