DC-area forecast: A few leftover showers tonight; some lingering rain Tuesday

Happening now: The solid area of rain and storms has exited to the east. Should be plenty of dry time this evening, but a few more showers and a thundershower are still possible through the evening or overnight.

What’s next? Cloudy and cooler Tuesday with more showers before a delightful Wednesday. Warmer, muggier conditions arrive later in the week, along with chances for late-day storms.

Tonight: Earlier storms have cleared out nicely. Much of the evening should be dry, but a few more showers and a thundershower are still possible into the overnight. Lows are in the mid-60s to near 70. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Tuesday): Mostly cloudy with showers likely, maybe a thunderstorm, and highs stalling in the 70s. Most rain should push off to the east by mid- or late afternoon, and is followed by gradual clearing. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Becoming mostly clear and pleasant. Lows range from the 50s in our cooler areas to the low 60s downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

Wednesday could be the pick of the week, with sunshine, low humidity and highs 80 to 85. Mostly clear and comfortable at night, with lows in the upper 50s (cooler areas) and 60s. Confidence: Medium-High

Partly to mostly sunny and warmer Thursday with highs in the mid- to upper 80s. Humidity is up a bit, into the moderate range, with the chance of an isolated late-day shower or storm. Confidence: Medium

Higher humidity returns Friday and Saturday, along with better chances for afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. Expect partly sunny skies and seasonably warm temperatures, with highs in the mid- to upper 80s. The nights are mild and a bit muggy, with lows in the 60s to near 70. Confidence: Medium
