Many parts of the D.C. area plunged into the chilly 40s Sunday morning. Temperatures were about 10 to 15 degrees below the norm to end May.
At the airports, Dulles dropped to 46 and BWI Marshall 49. The typically warmer Reagan National settled at 54.
These temperatures are probably the coolest they'll be again until September or early October.
An unusually cool air mass for the time of year is overhead. It helped supply adequately chilly air for snow in the mountains of interior New England Saturday.

Enjoy the refreshing air while it lasts. Highs soar to near 90 by Friday and Saturday.
