We noted in our near-perfect Daily Digit today that sunscreen was a good call. UV is expected to be around a "9," or "Very High," again tomorrow.

The EPA recommends when the UV is Very High: "Protection against sun damage is needed. If you need to be outside ... between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., take steps to reduce sun exposure. A shirt, hat and sunscreen are a must, and be sure you seek shade."

The EPA also reminds us "bright surfaces reflect UV and can double UV exposure." This time of year the sun is at its highest altitude (74.5 degrees) in the sky. Shade and sunscreen are good precautions at least 3 hours before and 3 hours after solar noon — or 1:10 p.m. EDT — when the sun is at its highest in the sky.
