Pretty standard summer temperatures are expected in the DC area through Monday, with highs mainly in the 80s to near 90.
But then, models suggest that heat starts to build on Tuesday with highs in the low to perhaps mid-90s, followed by a stretch of hot days Wednesday through Friday, each having a chance for highs at least in the mid-90s. And probably feeling hotter with the humidity.
At the moment, the National Weather Service has the DC area within a large area of extreme heat risk for Thursday July 2 through Saturday July 4. The region of potential extreme heat coincides with a strong, sprawling area of high pressure known as a heat dome.
However, forecast confidence is pretty low as to whether the heat will maintain its intensity into the July 4th weekend or cool off a bit.
