Forecast in detail

Today (Thursday): Loads of sun. Dew points are to and past 60, so some humidity is present, but not a whole lot. Highs in the mid- and upper 80s. Winds are out of the south around 5 to 10 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Small chance of an isolated shower or rumble this evening, mainly north of DC. Pleasantly warm, with temperatures back into the 70s after sunset. Mainly clear overnight. Lows about 60 to 65. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Friday): Partial sun in the morning gives way to more bubbly clouds in the afternoon. Highs reach the mid-80s to around 90 before any showers and storms become widespread enough to drop readings back. The best chance of storms is after about 4 p.m. A few could be strong. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Showers and storms could continue to roam parts of the area through sunset or so. Moisture levels are up, so temperatures only fall to the upper 60s and lower 70s. Some patches of fog are possible late at night. Confidence: Medium-High

A look ahead

A cold front gets locked up in the region Saturday and Sunday as it dissipates. That means messy sky conditions for us – a mix of clouds and sun – plus at least occasional chances of rain. Some rumbles could be heard, too, especially Sunday. Highs both days are probably in the low and mid-80s. Confidence: Medium

Warming back up next week. At least mid- to upper 80s on Monday, then 90 or above possible by Tuesday. Even hotter thereafter? Looking that way. Confidence: Medium
