What’s next? A cold front slides through tonight, with an isolated storm threat this evening. A bit less hot and drier for Friday but potentially very smoky, with unhealthy air quality. Showers and storms are more likely to open the weekend.

Forecast in detail

Tonight: A code orange air quality alert is in effect this evening as a cold front sinks through. After the chance of an isolated evening storm, drier and somewhat cooler air help lows dip to a 71 to 77 range, or cooler than recent nights. Confidence: Medium-High

Hourly Forecast | Pollen, Air & UV

Tomorrow (Friday): Drier air is in town, with dew points falling to near or below 60. This, plus the front being south of us, should keep storm chances minimal under mainly sunny skies. Wildfire smoke could be quite thick and lower to the ground than recent days, dimming the midday sun, degrading air quality, and keeping temperatures a bit lower with highs in the mid-80s to low 90s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Mostly to partly cloudy. There could be some showers or a storm overnight as activity from the west works this way while weakening. Lows in the low and mid-70s. Confidence: Medium-High

A look ahead

Turning muggier again Saturday as showers and thunderstorms become a good bet in the afternoon or evening, following a high around 90. A few more showers and storms are possible Sunday, but much of the day should be dry, with highs in the mid-80s to around 90. Confidence: Medium

Similar temperatures to start the workweek, with mainly mid- and upper 80s for highs Monday. Perhaps closer to 90 for Tuesday with a shower or storm chance. Confidence: Medium
