Friday is DC's 18th day at or above 90 degrees this summer, and the city continues to run well above average to date for the count.
The most 90-degree days to date is 20, in 2010 and 1991, so we're just off that record pace. DC averages reaching the 18th day of 90s on July 15. Our average high is 90 for much of that month.
After a break in the 90s through the weekend, we'll be back to piling them up next week. But that's only part of it.

Weather modeling continues to suggest a big-time heat wave developing. Even a model blend now has numbers as high as 103 to 105 in DC next Thursday. Some individual models are even higher, although we are still a bit outside the range for truly believing details.
At that level, we're closing in on the historical maximums. DC's all-time high is 106, in 1918 and 1930. The most recent 104 happened in July 2024, while it was 105 as recently as July 2012.
