A look ahead

The heat ramps a bit higher Tuesday with mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. Humidity is moderate to high with dew points in the mid-60s to near 70. Increasingly muggy Tuesday night with lows in the upper 60s to low 70s. Confidence: High

The heart of the heat wave is with us Wednesday through Friday. Highs look like the mid-90s to near 100 Wednesday, and upper 90s to low 100s Thursday and Friday. With high humidity, we could be talking dangerous afternoon heat indexes peaking near or above 110. Meanwhile nighttime lows only drop to the mid-70s to low 80s. Could see an isolated thunderstorm chance by late Friday. Confidence: Medium

The heat may not be quite as intense for Saturday July 4. But it may still be extremely hot with a chance to get well into the 90s to near 100. Late-day storm chances could be on the rise as well, but there isn't much confidence in that this far out. Confidence: Low-Medium
